Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have questions about Elton or electric vehicle charging in general? We probably have the answer, either here or if you contact customer service via the app.
Common questions about the Elton charging app
- Simply put: Elton is the only charging app you need to charge in the Nordic region.
With Elton, you have coverage of 80% of chargers in the Nordic region and can charge at multiple chargers along the way in one app. The app is free and available to everyone, regardless of electric vehicle. With Elton, you only pay for each charging session, there are no subscription fees.
- Connect the car to the charging station
Some cars have an adapter and can therefore charge with more charging types than what is standard. Your dealer should inform you about this. In the app, you can see what type of charger each station uses, so you easily know where you can charge with your car.
Tap "Charge car" in the Elton appYou'll find the button at the bottom of the app, or when you've tapped on a charging station in the charging map. Select the charger you've connected your car to in the app and start charging, and you're off. It can take up to 2 minutes before charging starts, based on how fast the charger is at sending and receiving data.
End charging in the appTo end a charging session, tap "Stop charging". Some car models require that you also end the charging from inside the car. If you can't disconnect the charging cable after ending a charging session, it's most likely because you need to also end it manually from the car.
Get receipt All receipts and your charging history can be found under "Your profile" which you can find under "Profile" in the menu at the bottom of the app.
With Elton, you can charge at all charging stations operated by operators we have partnerships with in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Our goal is to gather all chargers in the Nordic region in one common charging app. We add new charging stations every single day, so stay tuned! Check out all operators you can charge with here.
You don't need to use a charging chip when charging your electric car or hybrid car with Elton. Elton also doesn't have a charging chip you can order.
"Can I register other charging chips in Elton?"No. We want to give you a digital and simple charging experience. Therefore, you don't need to register physical charging chips in the app to charge your electric car or hybrid car.
The charging price depends on the operator, charging location, and speed. When you open a charging station in Elton, you'll see the price for that particular charger before you start.
When you start a payment, Elton will reserve 150 kroner if you choose card and 500 kroner if you choose Vipps as payment method. This is simply to ensure there is coverage on your payment method, so that charging proceeds as it should. Similar to how the bank reserves approximately 1,500 kroner when you fill up with petrol.
When charging is complete, we adjust this to what the charging actually cost and refund the rest to you. If you pay by card, we will release the correct amount within 24 hours after completed charging. The time it takes until you see the correct amount in online banking will vary depending on the bank. This can take up to 7 days.
Common questions about Electric Vehicle Charging
Several electric cars have a lock that is activated after two minutes. The problem is especially common with rental cars that use apps to lock the car. The solution is to lock and unlock the car again to remove the lock without having the charger in.
This is the easiest way to charge with an app:
Drive up to the charger and note the pole so you find the same one in the app
Connect the charging cable to the electric car
Start charging in the app
Charging speed can be affected by many factors, but the two major ones are temperature and how many are charging at the same pole.
If it's cold outside, it affects charging speed. If you have a preheating function in your car, this can help with this. Alternatively, it will also help to charge after you've driven a bit and thus gotten some heat in the car.
If it's not the temperature affecting the charging, the speed may be affected by multiple people charging at the charging station. A 300-kilowatt charger can only provide this speed if one car is connected. As soon as you share the charging station with another car, the speed is halved to 150 kilowatts per car. If there are few at a charging stop, always choose your own pole for the fastest possible charging.
Is the charger stuck in the car after an error has occurred or you're finished? Lock and unlock again. Then the charger should release.
Several cars also have "secret" button combinations on the key or dashboard that force the charging cable to release if it doesn't work with normal lock and unlock. Check if such a button combination exists for your car.

We won't pretend that we at Elton, the company working with apps for electric vehicle charging, don't think app solutions are the future. But we still encourage you to try for yourself and find what suits you best.
More and more stations accept cards, so if you know you're going to an available charger, this can be easiest. Chips work similarly, but they can limit which stations you can charge at, and there may be other fixed costs involved with membership. With an app, you can charge, find available stations, route plan, and get discounts in the same place, which makes it easy if you need to find new chargers or want the same charging experience every time regardless of charging company.
